Quality Electrical Engineering Services

Testing and Troubleshooting

Do you have an electrical issue nobody else can figure out? We can help! By leveraging our experience, knowledge, and specialized equipment, we can perform an audit of your system and recommend a solution.

Professional Electrical Engineering

Do you want your project to be well designed and ensure the installation has no problems? Or do your permits for your project require stamped electrical engineering drawings and other documents? We can help.

Staff Augmentation

Does your company have an ongoing need for electrical engineering support, normally provided by staff engineers? We may be able to help you save money by contracting with our team for those services. We divide tasks between our team so that the less difficult tasks are performed at a lower pay rate, ensuring the most efficient use of client funds. And if there is nothing to do, unlike a full time employee, we simply stop working, saving client funds.

Our specialties

modern solutions for modern problems

Critical Power Systems

Are power outages extremely expensive for your business? Or are you legally required to provide backup power? Or do you need power at an off-grid location? We can help you design a power system to meet your needs.

Marine Electrical Systems

Does your marine vessel have an electrical problem that requires an immediate repair? Or are you doing a remodel or new construction? We can help. Before becoming an electrical engineer, Lowell Perry worked for 14 years on marine vessels in the Alaska commercial fishing industry in Bristol Bay and Cook Inlet, so he is familiar with the unique needs of that industry.

Food Service Automation

Does your restaurant suffer chronic staffing shortages? Consider lowering the labor needs of your business with automation. A food conveyor belt is just one possibility. Consider the savings to be gained by replacing human labor with automated equipment. A 2 or 3 year pay off periods are very doable.

DC Generators

Are you responsible for a diesel generator based power system of 7kW or larger? Did you know you might be able to substantially cut costs by switching your AC generators out for DC generators? Here is how:

  1. A DC generator based power system will be able to share many components with a photovoltaic system, which lowers the total cost of installing both DC generators and a photovoltaic system. DC generators make Solar power more affordable.
  2. DC generators can be run in parallel without synchronization equipment, which means that instead of installing a single generator large enough to meet the maximum demand, you can install a bank of small generators without the additional cost of synchronization equipment. A bank of small generators is preferable because it increases redundancy and allows the generators to always run at maximum efficiency because the ones that are not needed are simply turned off instead of wet stacking a large generator. This reduces emissions and saves money on the cost of fuel and maintenance.
  3. The cost of redundancy is reduced because instead of simply buying a second large generator, which represents a 100% increase in capital cost, you simply increase your generator bank by 1. E.g. if you need a 5 generator bank, then a redundant 6th generator only increases capital cost by 20%.
  4. Creating DC generator banks from a single model of DC generator instead of installing different AC generator models uniquely suited for each load will decrease the cost of  keeping an inventory of spare parts because only one generator model will need to be supported instead of several.
  5. If your power system is in a remote community or on a marine vessel, you may be able to save on maintenance and down time because instead of supporting a remote technician to conduct a massive repair on site, a small DC generator can be relatively easily swapped out with a replacement generator and the old one transported to a central location for repair. The DC generator in the photo above weighs 215 lb and produces 6000 kW. That is small enough for 2 people to move it.
  6. DC Generators are smaller and weigh less than AC generators, so a bank of small generators will not represent significantly more space and weight than a single large AC generator.
  7. System growth is easier. Instead of replacing your AC generator with a larger one, simply add another small DC generator to the bank.

Hyperbaric Hydroponic Systems

We have found in the laboratory that adding hyperbaric conditions to a hydroponic system will increase seed germination rates from 80% to 100% and triple the growth rate of plants. However, these systems are complicated to construct. See above drawing of an example system. The above system is a manually controlled system. However, these systems can be automated.

Intentional Communities

Alaska is also known as “The Last Frontier”, and it truly is. If you are looking for a location to build your intentional community, eco village, agro village, or freedom community, Alaska is an excellent choice. A huge amount of Alaska’s territory is undeveloped and is NOT accessible by roads. See above map. However, much of Alaska IS accessible by coastal and inland water ways. This combination provides an excellent opportunity for any group of people who want to establish their own community. (My services are available in other locations as well, except for electrical engineering stamped designs, as I am presently only licensed in Alaska for electrical engineering.) Your first step will be to hire a consultant (that would be Lowell Perry Engineering, LLC) to guide you through the process. Every project is different, but the services we would provide for an average project might include the following:

  1. Boots on the ground investigation of property, local economy, local ecology, available contractors.
  2. Create plan drawings of roads, utilities, community facilities, private lots, organizing documents, business plans, landscaping.
  3. Create website/advertising campaign to recruit community members/investors.
  4. Organize member/investor meetings and committees.
  5. Create construction bid packages and provide construction management.
  6. Resident move in and orientation.

Fees are based on project scope. Available payment options include USD, BTC, and Barter. Contact us to book an initial 1-hour consultation for a flat fee of $150. If you are not quite sure, sign up for our intentional community email course, to learn more.
